marinas in tahiti

good morning friends,
not such where to post this thread, but we are looking for any tips, hints and good advice on somewhere to store our boat for 6 months while in French Polynesia, would prefer to be in the yard on the hard somewhere so if somebody knows of a place to recommend that would be a great start,
thanks in advance for your help.

Carenage on Raiatea is a possibility.

Re: marinas in tahiti

What size is your boat?

I understood that much over 50' (somewhat weight dependent) got more difficult in Raiatea? I know one boat that had to haul in Tahiti, but I understood they really only had work space there, not storage. Could be wrong, but I'm basing this on a conversation with the owner of a 48' Hans Christian this last season.

For smaller yachts there's also a yard in the Tuamotus now that a few boats we met were hauling at.

Either way, you'll love French Polynesia. Make sure you don't rush through the Marquesas and Tuamotus though.

I have seen some big arse boats out in Apataki but draft might be an issue for some larger monohulls.

Port Phaeton in Tahiti is worth checking as is Raiatea (which someone already mentioned)

Re: marinas in tahiti

There are only 3 places in French Polynesia where you can hull-out:
- Tahiti/Papeete, several yards and can hull-out almost any ship (no facility in Phaeton for dry storage that I am aware of)
- Raiatea: 2 yards, one is working almost exclusively for the charter companies, the other one ("carenage") is easier to deal with and they speak good English. The storage capacity fills up quickly. The owner is also head of the local police, so its probably safe.
- Apataki, see previous reply.
