Rolly Tasker sails?

Im shopping for a new 155% Jenny, and Rolly Tasker gave a fairly low quote. Has anyone had experience with them? They're quoting 4.1 oz. Dacron in a radial Genoa which seems a bit light to me. This is for an Oday 25 (a slug in the speed dept) and I'm 78 years old and want this one to last 10 years. That way it's likely to outlast me

Re: Rolly Tasker sails?

Used them many years ago for charter fleet boat sails. Always good results at low prices.

Sounds ok to me, what loft is it out of? China? Might take a while. I got a new Tasker main made in Oz recently, 7oz for 5 tons 34 footer. So 4oz for a big Jenny sounds right. Hope you get your ten years or better, some good pills around these days

Re: Rolly Tasker sails?

I’ve recently heard some grumbling about quality from RT in the last year. Having recently priced out sails I can also tell you that 95% of all local lofts will outsource their crosscut Dacron sails usually to Asia. There are a few North American and European lofts that will do them in house but you’ll be paying a premium for it. If you’re looking for affordable sails the best lofts I’ve found are:
Zoom Sails $
Far East Sails $
Precision Sails $
Banks $$
Leitch and McBride $$
Quantum $$
Hyde $$
Neil Pryde $$
Bacon $$ (new)
Doyle $$$
North Sails $$$
Hasse $$$$$$$$$

I also looked into Peak Sails $ and Lee Sails $$ but both have quite the reputation for poor quality and customer service.

Re: Rolly Tasker sails?

I have an old Rolly Tasker working Jib that was new 9 years ago and still going well.

As others have said, most sails are made in china now anyway

Re: Rolly Tasker sails?

I would exclusively say China; Thailand, Phillipeans, Taiwan, etc are anon others. From memory RT was rumoured to be doing work for North Sails or some other big name loft. Quality issues may extend from RT taking on more work in recent years. Either way shop around and get quotes. Most lofts are used to this and will most likely have a host of options from cloth, battens, stitching, cars, colours you name it.

Re: Rolly Tasker sails?

I've had RT sails in the past that I ordered through National Sail Supply in Florida. The loft is in Thailand and the sails were very well made, set well and were exactly what I ordered. I was pleased and would use again.

That said, you need to be a bit knowledgeable about sailcloth and understand the intended use of the sail and it's materials. They don't hold your hand but will give you exactly what you measure and specify.

Re: Rolly Tasker sails?

I'm the happy owner of a Rolly Tasker mainsail. But there have been some threads here in the last few years in which people expressed various problems they had with RT.

You can read through and decide. . . .
