Looking to sail to New Zealand from the USA

I'm in PA but I'll fly to wherever you are. Looking for a chance to learn. I have a few of the ASA courses under my belt, but I'm certainly a novice.

My friend is in the Airforce and would like to hike the Milford Trail, so getting there in Feb or March is a plus but not required.

I'm 37, chubby but in good shape(hiked 700 miles on AT recently), fast learner, and dedicated. I can talk about practically anything, I've worked in customer service most of my life so I tend to be very hard to pick a fight with.

It is a matter of timing around the various hurricane and cyclone seasons...The timing is often dictated by insurance consideration.

Boats heading for NZ leave the Americas after the eastern Pacific hurricane season and avoid arriving in French Polynesia until after their hurricane season in early Spring and then arrive in NZ before the western Pacific cyclone season in November.

We left Panama in early March and arrived in NZ late October.

I need crew going the otherway...Fiji to Seattle via Japan.

That's excellent information, and very much appreciated. So it sounds like taking a freighter or plane to NZ might be the best option. When do you plan on leaving Fiji?
