Prop Problem Lagoon 380

I am currently in Fiji and just lost one of my props, bolt became loose and prop cone spun off than prop.
I had a spare prop came with the boat, but never checked it on my shaft until now, it does not fit, the spline seems to be different.
My Question:
Are the prop splines the same on both port and starboard engines on a Lagoon 380 with Volvo 130S saildrives?
Does anyone know where I can get the specs on the required prop for my port side Volvo 130S saildrive?
I will probably need to order it from the USA and have it shipped.
The biggest problem I have is the need to get out of the Cyclone area before Nov 15th...I am heading to the Solomons

There's no reason why the shafts would differ.

Look at your starboard side prop for any markings. Or consult Volvo or Lagoon. The prop will be more specific to your boat than it will be to the saildrive, i.e., many props will fit the drive but the right diameter and pitch and LH vs RH will be specialized to your boat. You can determine the diameter fairly easily and in your sitch, any pitch will do temporarily. Even if you need LH and can only get a RH, all you'd have to do is swap the shifter to swap the forward/reverse. Volvo drives don't care which way they spin.

I will probably need to order it from the USA and have it shipped.

Try Volvo or Marine Parts Express - they ship all over the world.

Thanks Dave good advise, very helpful...I will pull my good prop and look for the markings. I will also look at Marine parts express I have bought Volvo parts fro them before I left the Caribbean.

The Volvo and Yanmar drives have the same shaft size and spline. I don't know about other saildrives, but Yanmar and Volvo must account for >90% of them. It is odd that you have a spare prop that won't fit. Are you sure it isn't an outboard prop? Did you check to make sure the splines weren't just damaged a bit on the prop and could fit if they were cleaned up?

It seems like they are similar but I am not sure when I was putting my saildrive back together the tide was coming in and the shaft went under water just as I discovered the problem with the spare not fitting, it makes no sense to me why my boat would have a spare that does not fit, I was hauled out on a sandbar maybe I need to go back to the sand bar again. It is a very odd problem.

Rick - if all else fails, go on one engine. You'll be no worse off than all our mono friends and your boat may like it without that drag on one side. If nothing else it'll show you what single engine motoring would be like with folders......

The spare prop I have is a 2 blade fixed...8 13 L is stamped on it
I am assuming it is a 8 inch blade 13 pitch and Left hand screw.
Not sure if that would be on my port or starboard engine.

I have learned to run the boat with one engine in French Polynesia my saildrive seals leaked salt water into my starboard saildrive. I was using it only in emergencies. I replaced those seals in Bora Bora

It is a sailboat..and I am sailing west, wind from the E/SE

8x13 is not a size one would expect for a L380 - the smallest prop from Volvo starts at 14".

I would expect the markings mean 13 inch diameter, 8 inch pitch, left hand. That sounds too small to me for your boat. Mark could be right that it is a spare dinghy outboard prop, although not too many outboards have 2 blades any more. I don't know what engines you have but the folding props for my Volvo MD22L-B 50 hp are 18" diameter and 13" pitch. Your engines won't be that much smaller, so I'd expect a bigger prop than 13X8.

These are normally both left hand props and I have 16x11 2 blade fixed props fitted on my 410 (Yanmar SD20 with 27HP engines). That's 16" diameter with 11" pitch.

Sureley the 8x13 you had as a spare would have looked markedly different in size from the prop on your other side? If your engine size is similar I would expect the prop size to be close to 16x11.

The splines on Volvo and Yanmar saildrives are the same, with props being interchangeable.

The prop is 16 inch tip to tip/diameter but it is marked 8 13 L
I think this prop maker marks it from the tip of the blade to the center of the hub.
I measured it from tip to tip of blades and it is 16inch

So it is a 16in 13 pitch Left hand I would guess.

This prop also has only 17 teeth maybe my props have 18 or 19 teeth that would cause it not to fit.

I will dive under my boat and count the teeth on my spline.
I was just in the city trying to find a prop but in the Pacific your chances are 1% most parts are Fed Ex in.

I just found a propeller supplier online and found the part number for my prop 21351240 it is a 16 in 13 pitch LH
I am waiting on the specs to be sure my spline is the same.
It is quite a search 2 blade fixed props are not common everybody wants to sell folding props etc.

Cruising out here best to keep it simple

I am still confused as to why my spare would not fit...some things on a boat can never be explained it is the way it is.

In that thread I did not understand why the props looked so different. As confirmed by Marine Enginner the damaged one from the spares cabinet had been badly worn from rubbing on the saildrive hub at some time - maybe on a different boat.

So you have a spare that doesn't fit. I had a damaged spare, but no sign of matching damage to the saildrive.

It does seem like your two prop are a little different from wear.

My spare prop seems to be fine but yet if does not fit for some odd reason.

When I pull my good prop I can compare them, to see if the teeth match.

I guess that you have similar props to mine other than the pitch is 11.
