Bleh, rotten time to head north.....lots of waiting for cold fronts to space out enough to head north.

Re: Delivery: Belize to Texas

I prefer late April/early may. It gives enough time for the south east wind to establish without being obnoxious.

+1. Its now cold front season and will likely only get worse. One pushing into the GOM right now. Cold fronts in the region typically end in March. Most stable weather is April/May, as posted, and then July-Nov is hurricane season.

....from Cucumber Beach Marina, Belize. Beautiful here now, but looking pretty snotty by the 19th due to this next front.

paid captain or otherwise it is worth heeding the weather advice,so as not to risk costly delays and or damage to the vessel.

the GOM can be lumpy at the best of times!

+3... I was a paid captain at one point in my life. The only delivery I'd do, in the gulf in the winter is heading south. Nasty in the winter. Can you say "square waves".

Re: Delivery: Belize to Texas

I am a professional delivery captain, master, ASA instructor, through multi hull, and am available. I think you have seen most of the reasons to not head North in the Winter. Another is cost. I charge per day or estimate how long it will take and charge for the time I think it will take. If you are interested send me an email at jcvillines@gmail.com.

Strongly suggest you have a contract with your captain that spells out all foreseeable events. Make sure your boat is up to snuff. I have travelled to a boat, at the owner's expense, only turn around and head home, at the owner's expense due to a poorly maintained boat.

Use me or not I would be glad to discuss this with you.

Re: Delivery: Belize to Texas

Definitely off to a bumpy start for the winter here in Texas. If this is any indication of what to expect....it ain't gonna be pretty.

Sunday Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Cloudy, with a high near 71. South wind 10 to 15 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Sunday Night Showers likely. Cloudy, with a low around 45. Windy, with a north wind 10 to 20 mph increasing to 20 to 30 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
Monday Partly sunny, with a high near 54. Windy, with a north wind 25 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.

Bad time of year to make that run, yeh. Myself, I wouldn't do it. I would wait till April. Or I would have gone for it the first of October, if no hairy-canes headed thisaway.

Re: Delivery: Belize to Texas

It ain't the best time, but it is certainly doable in November/December. You should plan with your captain on making several jumps and waiting for the right forecast for each jump.

Re: Delivery: Belize to Texas

"Certainly doable", yes. It is certainly doable to circumnavigate in a 21 foot homebuilt plywood boat, too. It's been done. That doesn't mean it is a bright idea.
