Wintering Ionian Reservation?

Hello everyone,

I will leave my boat (sailboat pw / epoxy) 10.5 m ashore somewhere in the Ionians, eg Preveza or Messolonghi for winter (November to April) .

I contacted some yards, but I'm a bit surprised because they urge me to book now with a deposit of 10-20%.

Being in the med for a little over a year, I left the boat for July and August and winter, and each time, I did not have to worry about booking, free places ashore being largely sufficient.

Making a bank transfer for a deposit to someone I do not know, several months in advance so that hazards can impose to change plans, seems risky to me.

So my question for those who have experience in the area.
Is there a shortage of which would require to make a reservation in advance ?
How soon is it necessary to do so?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Wintering Ionian reservation ?

November is a pretty late slot for that part of the med so many yards may well have no room at the inn by then if you just turn up.

I would book and pay deposit by the end of August latest or earlier once you know your plans as yards fill up very quickly in september so you want to have a firm spot before then.

Having said that at your boats length you will have more flexibilty than most to find a space.

Lots of room at Preveza - I used and would recommend Ionion Marine.

Phone Michael Thompson Of Carayachts. Cost is very competitive. I don't think he'll want a deposit. Contact details at Carayachts
