Hello, brand new sailor checking in

New the forum, howdy

I'm 40, zero sailing experience, currently living in Austin TX. Husband and I have been thinking about buying a catamaran to sail the world for a while now. I'm sure we're not the first couple to watch youtubers having a blast and wanting to do the same (wynns, vagabonds, you get the idea ).

We were in Tahiti this past March and it sealed the deal for us. We were staying at a nice resort and saw so many catamarans coming and going past our bungalow. Next time we're there that'll be us!

Lots of great info and people here, looking forward to becoming part of the community. I'm looking for feedback on my plan for getting certified and eventually buying a boat after chartering, hopefully I'll figure out the right place to post it.

Get some free experience crewing on local race boats. It’s a bit intense but you will learn a lot.

Hi there and welcome, EricVentures! My fiance and I (mid 30s) likewise caught the sailing bug watching the Youtube people i.e. Delos, Uma earlier this year... did ASA 101 on Lake Lanier, GA during the summer and now in final stages of closing on a sweet boat (knock on wood)!!! Years of experience be damned, the circumnavigation commences on 1/1/2019! My timeline is aggressive (some would say crazy), so your plan seems perfectly reasonable to me. Do not delay

We have another thing in common: we also just returned from Tahiti / Moorea and had much the same reaction, vowing to return next year on our own vessel.

Wow small world weazardofinance. We were there for a week, spent half of our time first at hotel Sofitel on Mo'orea, then the second half on the only resort on Le Taha'a. Splurged for an over water bungalow at each place, was worth it! Such beautiful islands, and the water was incredible. I never got sick of snorkling.
