A Strange Leak

Hi, I just got a lovely old Morgan OI 51.

There is a small leak dripping water on to the edge of the couch, seems water is coming in somewhere then running down the linner and into the corner where it leaks out the crack where the liner is fastened to the beam.

Weird, because above the leak is the cockpit foredeck and that area is all solid fibreglass, no stays, no deck fittings?

Im thinking maybe the water is coming in the mast step? but that is well forward of this area?

Short of pulling the ceiling liner off, any suggestions?

Ill take some photos tmr and post them up...

Re: A Strange Leak

Direct a jet of water from a garden hose on one item on deck. Wait to see if water comes out in cabin. Trick is how long do you wait? Maybe hose down 3-5 items at a time on deck to localize, maybe also get an idea of transit time of water in the liner, then go back to one item at a time.

Re: A Strange Leak

If it's a corded deck it could be coming from anywhere even multiple fittings. This is the problem with old boats and solid ceilings.

Do as Cal40john recommended and hope it's just running thru one fastener.

The first trick is to turn your boat right side up.
