Buying S/H Yacht in SE Asia and registration

Hi,

I`m new so excuse me if I am a n00b!

I am looking at a s/h yacht for cruising mainly around Malaysia/Thailand/Indonesia for now. I am an Aussie citizen, however plan to spend more time in this region cruising (maybe for 1-2 years, laying boat up on hard stand in Malaysia if/when I need to return home). Eventually, I would like to sail back to Australia and possibly keep boat there for a year or so.

The boat currently is registered in EU.

My question is - should I re-register in Malaysia, leave registered as is, or register in Australia?
I have read a lot online and am confused as how to proceed here.
