Club Nautico in Cartagena - Still There ?

I have tried emailing John down at Club Nautico in Cartagena to get some information. I tried the emails I have found on the web and they are coming back as:

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

clubnauticocartagena@gmail

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

contactos@clubnauticocartagena.com

Their website hasn't been update since March.

Anyone with current news?

Ha! John works here now, at Shelter Bay Marina in Colon, Panama. If you PM me I can give you his email if you want.

I do not know the situation @ Club Nautico but it ain't pretty... You can try to make reservations at Club de Pesca or anchor.

ciao!
Nick.

Nick-

I don't really need to speak with John per se- I just thought that he was there. I am just trying to get as info as I can about our options being on a catamaran in Colombia (haul out -for our size Ferroalquimar) and if we wanted to dock or leave the boat to go into the interior).

So any recommendations might be useful.

Thanks,

Mark

I haven't been in Cartagena for years so I'm not up to date enough to help you with that. I was not so impressed with the yards there so we never hauled in Colombia.

The biggest Travelift in the area is in Colon, Panama. Then there's Jamaica and Curacao. Not sure about Honduras. You might need to rent a crane in Cartagena but then again, I've not been there for years so may be they have 120-ton Travelifts now.

ciao!
Nick.

Ferroalquimar's web site shows a 300 ton travel lift now (wow, pretty impressive). Anyone had work done there recently?

I was there a few months' ago. Club de Pesca is pretty much "Members Only" (and a bit snooty to boot!) so I doubt if you'll get any joy there unless you know a member. Tony

Pretty safe at least on the Caribbean side. Lots of Coast Guard around. Cartegena is a great city. It is safer than some parts of the Eastern Carib. Of course, the normal precautions apply.

What is the name of the yacht club with the old gun emplacements?

Where all the heavy hitters keep their boats. It is built on the site of the original gun emplacement that once protected the harbor. Am I confused?

Club de Pesca. I was there about 2 months ago. They didnt seem especially interested in cruisers and told me they could not accomodate catamarans.

Club Nautico has completed basic construction of all new buildings and are working on finish out. But...quoted me $1,200/month for a 35' cat...holy crap!

Re: Club Nautico in Cartagena- Still There ?

Yachting is booming in Colombia, so facilities are smaller than demand.
Santa Marta, and Puerto Velero have already built new larger marinas to serve the growing market, but Cartagena has not increased the offer.
Cartagena Marinas are busy enough with local yachts, so I think it will take some time until they grow the offer. Meawhile, catamarans slips are too few.
