Fish finder on Android tablets with Boating HD in 2019?

So up to recently it was great to use Raymarine WiFish or a Dragonfly 4Pro linked into Navionics Boating HD on a tablet. Unfortunately it's my understanding that these affordable devices have been discontinued. The Vexillar T-Box SP200 & SP300 are just not very good.

There's something called Sonar Server NMEA0183 which allows to connect a transducer for SonarChart Live, but my understanding is that it won't give a fish finder picture.

Do we have any other workable options? Any budget minded working solutions?

There are many great low cost options. But most don't use a tablet.

Lowrance Hook2 is the first thing that comes to mind.

Re: Fish finder on Android tablets with Boating HD in 2019?

I mounted a HOOK² largely because it seemed cost effective to get depth finding and chart plotting in the same gadget. The sonar works most of the time but the first time I tried to pick through a shallow harbor I ran aground with the thing showing 5' under my keel! It had lost signal totally in the shallow water.

I bought a shoot through transducer for it, but the manual includes instructions for using the included transom mount transducer as a shoot through. Plan on $200-300 for the HOOK² with a smallish screen and $75 for an extra transducer.

I recieved a Vexilar T-Box years ago as a promotional item. Installed it and it worked pretty well, but its dated technology now. You can get units w CHIRP sonar now quite inexpensively.

The Vexilar unit failed last year and I wont be replacing it w same.

You mean the units listed in this thread above? I don't doubt their sonar is pretty good. I just want something that also gives an option to link to my big screen tablet wirelessly if possible.

Raymarine WiFish used to be pretty good.

I'll ask one last time, and then consider it settled since I haven't been able to find anything. No current alternatives to Raymarine WiFish and DragonFly 4Pro? I already got a lot of help in this thread, it's just that they aren't exactly what I was looking for.

I've been following your thread because I'm interested in the same thing.

At the risk of falling victim to a salesman, why not go into a Worst Marine and ask their electronics guy for input?

Not many of them here in Indonesia, or I would have done it myself already.

It seems like the answer is no. I am thinking Raymarine discontinued this stuff because it was eating into their profits..

Meaning that you went into WM and asked, and the salesman wanted to talk only about Raymarine?

You might want to try a different salesman, or different WM. Asking WM salesman questions is a crapshoot.

I am not a fan of Raymarine.

Shoot these guys the question.
