Arrg! Indonesian log vs. Boat, log wins. Need haulout reccomendations!

Just arrived in Sorong, Indonesia today. Unfortunately on our sail here from Vanimo PNG, we hit a log (at night, purposefully slowing down in case we whacked anything- guess not enough!), and have bent our prop strut. Also bent/broke a couple of engine mounts. But the strut is the real issue that will require us to get hauled out.

So... anyone have any recommendations on a facility that can haul a 48' cat with a 26' beam? Best option I can come up with so far is some of the facilities in Darwin, specifically looking at Spot on Marine in Fannie Bay.

Here's an update after doing some research over the past week for anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation:


Haulout facitilties in Sorong at present are a no go. The actually do have several slipways/ marine railways that could handle us, but they are primarily used by the large fishing boats and live aboard schooners. They wanted upwards of $8000 AUD just to lift up and down (we didn't even bother to ask about the daily rate). That being said, there is a local cruisers marina (Helena Marina) that is in the process of building a ramp and a rolling submersible cradle that will be able to haul most cruising boats (cats too!). Completion of that project is still a few months away, so not viable for us. Contact the very helpful and pleasant Wick Alliston (wick.eon@gmail.com) for details on the marina.


We also looked at the Philippines, and while that option might be OK for an in the water refit, we weren't able to find many places that could haul us out. We were also concerned about the degree of engineering competency we would find there, since we have to straighten struts and shafts.


No other options in Indonesia surfaced so we have decided to head to Darwin and use Spot On Marine. They have a rather new "Roodberg launch & recovery" trailer that should be able to lift us from the bridgedeck.

I believe they have a trailer at Samal that could haul you out, just another option.

Because the strut is glassed in, and not thru bolted. And if something bad happens structurally when we go to straighten it, I don't want to be in/near the water.

No updates yet. We received some info on shipyards and marine railways in Bitung, and are currently trying to see if it could work for us. We'll update the thread when we have more info.

For what its worth....here in Subic, all the large cats are lifted out by very large rail Crane at a place called Translift.
Australian owner of ship size machine and engineering company, so no shortage of expertise.

Also Kiwi company does fiberglass work there on site at their own workshop.

Other company Gecko Marine at same dock does large commercial to yacht conversions as you can see the big one beside my Stargazer
