Wind Sensor on a Ketch Rig

Is there any reason to not place the wind speed sensor (or any other electronics) on the mizzen mast vs main mast? My mizzen mast already has the radar, and I will probably mount a wind generator there as well. I figured that putting everything on the mizzen would be easier if there are issues later (not as high to climb, everything in one spot) but wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking a reason why it would be a bad idea.

Only real bad reason to not put the wind sensor there is that the main will influence the speed and direction of the wind passing over the mizzen mast head.

Bad air flow from main mast.

harder to see top of mizzen than top of main mast from cockpit. think about it--as well as the influence of main on the flow of air.
might rethink your masthead placement of wind genny --is why my thai cedar mizzenmast broke in a furycame in 2015.

Re: Wind Sensor on a Ketch Rig

I can see the top of the mizzen better than the top of the main (center cockpit, pilot house). But mainmast turbulence would be a problem for a wind sensor.

I'm mounting my D400 on the mizzen.

Re: Wind Sensor on a Ketch Rig

Racing boats put them on wands that are longer than an elephant's d**k so as to get them away from the wind (upwash) created by the sails. And on the mizzen mast it would be getting all kinds of garbage air, just as if you were following 5m behind another boat. Make sense??

Re: Wind Sensor on a Ketch Rig

i rarely use my mainsail.
i use genoa and mizzen
.my mainmast has less turbulence and more accuracy than my mizzen.
i donot use wind direction indicater just speed information.
wind generator will be on trailing corners of hard dodger to be.
each ketch is different, as is each sailor
