c-map SD card use in laptop and OpenCPN

Has anybody used the C-MAP PC PLANNER device to read C-Map SD cards for use in OpenCPN? If yes, is it possible to move the map files to a directory on the laptop and load them into OpenCPN using the chart loader?

I've looked through the OpenCPN manual and do not see this mentioned. Most information in the manual refers to downloading charts online.

Contact C-Map and ask them to talk to us about a plug-in for their chart products.
Seriously.

Re: c-map SD card use in laptop and OpenCPN

Thanks for the comments and advice - much appreciated. I will follow-up with C-Map if I can contact them. It seems that they have split from Jeppeson and have not yet sorted out their phone lines. Reaching them by phone from Canada has not been possible. They ignore email contact via their online "contact us" mechanism on the C-Map website.

I recently purchased a C-Map card for the South Pacific and I have asked the dealer that sold it to me the same question as I posted on this site. Sadly, they don't know but plan to ask C-Map. I'll ask the dealer to ask C-Map about a compatibility plan for OpenCPN.

Thanks again.

C-MAP refused cooperation because OpenCPN using pirated charts C-MAP CM93ed2
Using the C-MAP chart in OpenCPN make it commercially because for the use of C-MAP SDK you need to make annual royalties.

C-MAP/Jeppesen should know that toothpaste once out of the tube will not get into again.....

There can be a solution that does not require the C-MAP SDK. Obviously CMv3*maps will have to be licensed.
Baikal, if you have contacts, recommend them to talk to us. In the end, it's their business. OCPN users just want correct charts at a correct price.

Re: c-map SD card use in laptop and OpenCPN

Jeppeson now supplies ENC charts of their maps for commercial shipping. It should be possible to used these with the S63 plugin in OpenCPN.

However they are not (yet) willing to supply these for yachting purposes.

Probably to protect dealers selling C-map charts and doing the updates of the memory cards.

But ENC is the standard for marine charts and is it is only a matter of time that you can lease C-map charts in Enc format.

I don't expect a driver for the Reader to use the modules in OpenCPN.

C-MAP sells its products only in a closed system CM-93ed3 format. The S-63 is never supplied.
In September, C-MAP announced the renaming of database PRIMAR in ENC +

Jeppeson is the present owner of C-map. What do they supply to commercial shipping for the Ecdis systems ?

Jeppesen Marine Division sold its DMS Group. DMS is also the owner of the NAVICO (Lowrance, Simrad, B & G)
