price of Yanmar diesel motor with saildrive

I´ve just received a quotation to buy a Yanmar 3JH5CE with saildrive SD60, 39 HP, for US$ 18,328.00. Is this a reasonable price?

Maybe saildrive makes it higher? I was quoted in 17K range for a Yanmar 4JH57 with standard tranny before I went with Beta

It´s a lot more power. But taking in account that´s without the sail drive, the price I´ve got starts to look reasonable. I was thinking that the price had a lot of brazilian cost on it.

Wow, I would have figured $10-12k for a new diesel.

Glad the only engine swap I've done is a 25hp outboard for $5k installed by the dealer at the dock.

For that size purchase, at least in my budgeting, I’d get a couple more quotes. Maybe frim another Yanmar deal with installation included and also a quote from Beta. With that additional info you’ll likely have confidence in the pricing.

That sounds in the ball park. I priced out two awhile back and came in right around the same number.

Appears to be in the ballpark. A couple of months ago I was quoted $15k for a Beta 38 with standard inline transmission.

Volvo's are known for their high replacement part costs when you can find them. I currently have a Volvo MD17C that the Beta will be replacing.

easy choice for me- I am concerned about electronically controlled common rail technology being a bit ahead of the realities of the marine environment and fuel quality. Even if the ECU is as reliable as they say, you can't change out an injector even without a technician reprogramming it into the ECU.

Beta is tier 3 compliant mechanically controlled diesel which is likely more tolerant of mediocre fuel, and is able to be worked on by owner. Beta uses Kubota which is largest worldwide small diesel manufacturer. The Kubota block that is on the Beta I am having installed is in pretty much most Bobcats/Skidsteers on the market so I am pretty comfortable with industrial style reliability.

I've had Yanmar 3YM30 and 4JHE so far and both were very reliable. But they were mechanically injected. New JH series is only ECU.

Just installed a 2 cyl .fresh water cooled yanmar with transmission , cost $6600 plus $200 shipping out of tampa fl, not the same as yours.

I keep hearing this from many sources and locations. With a heavy hearth just turned down a nice used boat offer because of the Yanmar "upgrade" the user made (and "of course" expecting a price premium on it). These upgrades in the class I am searching are mostly ~10 years old already, thus I'd expect problems to show up. I either buy something more serviceable or just the original 30 years old Mercedes and repower myself with a Kubota or Mitsubishi-based engine when needed.

Paid under US9000 in Caribbean for a 3JH5E bobtail. No VAT or duty.

This is mechanical, not common rail. I think it might not meet EPA rules for selling in US.
Probably woukd have gone with Beta but it was too long.
