BEST BUILT

Because we build more high performance sailboats, that are pushed to the limit in tough conditions than anyone else in the world, construction exceeds those of typical cruising boat builders. In fact, the J/37c is independently certified to the American Bureau of Shipping's Maltese Cross A-1 Offshore Yacht Standard. A process which involves "hands-on" inspection of all stages of construction and checks over twenty systems. Both hull and deck are a Lloyd's approved Baltek Contourkore, end-grain balsa F.R.P. hand lamination. High strength and stiffness contribute to improved performance when pounding through waves and longer hull life because there's no "oil-canning." Isopthalic gelcoat and vinylester resin in the hull's outer skin gives J/37c four times the blister resistance of other cruisers.

CRUISING BONUSES

The stand or sit navigator's station with level surface, swing out seat, large chart storage, and hinged instrument panel. Other unique cruising benefits are the huge cockpit storage locker, the easy step-over bridgedeck for access under a dodger, complete tack! clew reefing controls led aft to the cockpit, TEN large opening ports and hatches in the cabintop, two dual exit dorade vents, stowaway fillers to convert twins to doubles in the two staterooms, the tall high-performance double spreader tapered mast, and the smoothness of a custom "quickratio" quadrant turning a rudder on semi-custom Harken rudder bearings. A 5.0 ft shoal draft UFO "vinged keel is available as an option. And, the extensive J/Boat Owner's Manual will guide you with technical information, tuning tips, and commissioning and winterizing checklists, to enhance the enjoyment and care of your J/37c.

LOA 37.5' LWL 32.5' Beam 12.4' Draft Shoal 5.0' Ballast 5,700 lbs. Displacement 14,500 lbs. 100% Sail Area 754 sq. ft. I 51.5' J 14.8' P 45.0' E 16.5' Diesel Aux. 28 hp. Water 50 gal. Fuel 30 gal. Designer: Rodney S. Johnstone

SINGLE-HANDED CONTROL.

The importance of cockpit layouts has been seriously under-rated for cruising. Why separate the driver from the controls? That's what cruising boat designers have been doing for years. If the helmsman alone can't control rig and instrumentation within an arms length, it's a work boat, not a cruising boat. Because, a good sailor must either suffer frustration in not being able to fine tune for optimum performance, or constantly disturb the crew with a flow of commands and requests. The "J" cruising cockpit has demonstrated that it makes long passages seem like hours instead of days. Imagine being able to tack the boat, bear-off around the next buoy and ease the main, and adjust the genoa for the new breeze all from the helmsman's cockpit!

COMFORTABLE CRUISING.

The perfect cruising rig is a dacron main with 3/4" flat sides, full length battens, lazy jacks and a 135% dacron genoa on a Harken roller furler. The Mailsail can be raised and lowered from the cockpit and the lazy jacks help flake the sail on the boom so secure a few sail ties and you're done. The large mainsail combined with the efficient forward triangle insure that the J/37c is easy to tack and control in a variety of conditions. In light air the J/37c sails close to wind speed both upwind and down wind, whereas, less efficient designs and the outdated full keel sailboats must resort to auxiliary power. In 20 to 30 knots of wind most sailboats become uncomfortable to sail. This is when J/37c is in her element. Once the breeze becomes overpowering for the 135% genoa simply roll her up and continue sailing upwind at 6.5 knots with mainsail only. Then crack off around the island and enjoy surfing at speeds up to 10-12 knots, while others are pitching and rolling as they are overtaken by wave after wave, simply because they cannot exceed hull speed and surf. On J /37c the positive energy of the waves translates into positive forward energy on the boat and insures a smooth, stable, fast ride, thus, reducing wave frequency. The net result is that you arrive at your destination well rested and well ahead of the pack. The J/37c L-shaped galley provides exceptional work and storage space, a large icebox, three-burner stove, and most importantly, plenty of ventilation to keep the cook "cool."

INTERIOR SECRETS

Four design features allow the J/37c to achieve a unique blend of performance and livability:

1. The dual entry head, accessible from the Main Cabin and the Forward Stateroom, allows a private entrance forward and a direct entrance for guests through the main bulkhead. This maximizes head access and stateroom privacy

2. The spacious ''J-shaped'' galley has large dry goods storage shelves, drawers, cabinets, a unique molded dish storage locker, a large 6.0 cu. ft. ice box, and plenty of ventilation all of which make meal preparation a breezed and clean up a snap.

3 . A private aft stateroom with plenty of standing/changing room at its forward end features two opening ports a vanity table, drawers, cabinet, and storage above the engine compartment. A reading seat is also included and provides a comfortable and quiet area to read a favorite book or make the daily log entries. the stateroom is far enough forward and enclosed to obtain proper dry storage for duffels and standing headroom under the cabin trunk.

4. A deluxe owner's stateroom located forward of the main structural bulkhead features a private entrance to the head, a huge V-berth with filler for sleeping comfort, a large vanity table with multiple drawers and cabinets, full length shelves, teak ceilings, superb ventilation from three opening ports and two skylight hatches. The structural bulkhead also isolates the owner from noisy night owls in the cockpit, or late night rafting parties.
