Rig & Engine Surveyors in LA

I'm currently evaluating a 1978 Kelly Peterson 44 which lies in Los Angeles. Date for the survey is already fixed, but I'd like to do separate rigging and engine surveys because of her age.


Does anyone know capable people in the LA/Long Beach area?

the best surveyor ever lives in san diego. if you want an honest survey , kjels christian of christian and assoc is THE one to get. yes pricey. yes HONEST. he is the surveyor that sellers donot like to see coming as he will tell all.
if you want specific items surveyed, kjels i am sure can refer you to someone equally honest.

I've just had a phonecall with Marine Diesel Services | One Stop Shop for Diesel Services, they charge 135$/hour for an engine survey that will take about half a day.

I guess the money for an engine survey for a 5500 hrs motor is worth it anyway, but is that a normal price in this area?

Half a day sounds a bit excessive. You can pull oil yourself and send for analysis if that is,enough for you.


I would ask what they ck. For that much time should be able to ck compression of all cylinders, pressurize cooling system to ck for leaks, adjust valves and more.
