I wish the fisherman had donned the pfd before simply grabbing on to the stern of the kayak. Lucky kayaker that she didn't get capsized.

And did I hear the fisherman call out that he had no life jackets on board??

I thought I heard one of those on shore that "there is a life jacket hanging behind you" ??

Annie slowly approached boat from up wind with purpose, put her kayak at the stern, giving crabber best opportunity to lower himself down to kayak.
That Annie's my kind of gal! (can i say that in today's world?)
Think the world of firemen, but can't help to think I watched them sink that boat.
Maybe not worth saving.
But don't know wasn't there. In any case, sure way to make sure there will be no flare ups.

A professional crab fisherman, no life jacket, and cannot swim, and has his boat catch on fire, likely caused by human action.

I have always told my sailing and motor vessel students, that if you come upon a vessel that is on fire...stand off well up wind, and have the crew / passengers abandon ship in their life jackets and swim to your vessel.

DO NOT GET ON BOARD TO HELP THEM FIGHT THE FIRE.. Fuel tanks, extra fuel, etc, are bloody bombs. Stand off and get the people to safety, notify the coasties, or harbies, and any other nearby vessels. There could be many people in the water, and they need all the assistance that they can get.

Gold stars, and outstanding thinking and action by the kayak captain.

Also good support by her friend and friends on land.

Most often with boat fires, they generally burn to the water line and are totally gutted.

There was no rescue people near that flaming vessel when the fisherman was rescued by a super lady kayaker. By the time the rescue personnel arrived that crabbers boat was history and dangerous.
