Forward cockpit Schionning Design!

Afternoon All

I got my Schionning newsletter yesterday and Jeff has designed a new boat for production by a builder on Rhode Island in the US. It's slightly more oriented towards load carrying and has a forward cockpit!

Looks pretty nice and is called the Razor Cat.

I know it's a small detail, but they're BERTHS, not births!

Competition for Tony Grainger's Ocean Renegade design. It's very 'gunboat'ish'.

We're going to construct a Mumby 49.9 as a Hybrid version...
Give us some Time to work it out...

That sounds very interesting, thanks for posting.

Are you building in aluminium? If you don't mind saying, whereabouts will this take place?

I'd love to follow your project.

Lovely boat. Wish them luck. Always liked schionning designs. I’m scratching my head as to timing of launching this design in USA. With cost of labor here and all the environmental laws that a manufacturer will deal with. Then add rising interest rates ... scary for me even to think about this.

Is there any price point devulged

I remember the first time I saw Chris White’s Atlantic series cats.. I was seriously smitten. Then I saw the price tag and my heart fell like a lead ballon.

Love that forward design cockpit and inside steering position when it gets nasty.

Re: Forward cockpit Schionning Design!

Would someone be so kind as to post a photo of the foward cockpit? I looked at the link, and don't see any cockpit forward. The steering is centred, and inside, with electric winches and such. But I see no forward cockpit.

But it's a very sexy design.

Thanks.
Paul.

Paul, you are, of course, correct. There's no, external, cockpit forward. The place you sail the boat from is forward but internal.

I haven't seen one, I daresay we'd have to enquire.

Not sure how much change you'll get out of $2m for an Atlantic 57? A few years back when I looked they were $1.6m built at alwoplast. I reckon the RazorCat will be cheaper but no idea how much.

I can't imagine having a boat built in any high labour cost market. Not something I could afford to do.

Re: Forward cockpit Schionning Design!

I really wasn't sure. I thought maybe there was another version I didn't see.

Very sexy boat, indeed. I'd love to have one myself.

Cheers, and thanks for the clarification.

Paul.

Actually it will be made by Pacific Seacraft in North Carolina. PS has a stellar reputation for highend monos. Some of you forget that the US still has a sailboat building industry. Geminis, Maine Cats, Hunter, Catalina and more are built here. Jeanneau and Beneteau build some boats here as does Ocean Alexander with the new 70' power yacht. Couple that with the 2 largest spar manufacturers in the world which have factories here and you got a very robust sailboat industry. What's not to love?

The price! [emoji16]

Not doubting the quality, at all. I have no doubt it'll be awesome.

Re: Forward cockpit Schionning Design!

Looking at numbers, the boat will perform superb, no doubt..
I am not sure whether it was intentional or not but the boat seems to be designed for cold waters..There is no forward cockpit and the aft cockpit is smaller than what Lagoon 40 or 42 is offering. And the helm station inside the saloon..Here in the Med and in the caribbean, the people spend 90% of their life in day time outside the saloon.
I am big fan of Schioning designs and I cannot afford 1.5 mio $ boat. Even if I could, I would only consider this one if I ever decide to turn Cape Horn or plan a North Sea passage

Cheers
