Lower Cost Waterproof Wifi Camera

On my Hunter 42 with the genoa out, i have quite limited forward vision which is uncomfortable to say the least in a crowded waterway! I want to find a camera to connect to my current model Ray E7D- the ray genuine cameras are just too expensive! There are so many IP66 rated wifi security cameras out of China now on DX.com but i wonder if anyone has gone down this path and had any actual experience?

Re: lower cost waterproof wifi camera

What about a GoPro (or knockoff like the ActiveOn CX) and monitor it via phone/tablet when needed? You could use a clamp mount to put it where you need, and then remove when you don't, or for charging. Plus you can also use it for little videos when you aren't using it as a monitor? Not sure how much time you need to be monitoring all the time, or anything, but it's an option that might not have been considered.

Otherwise, I'm not much help atm since I'm already hiding on here at work lol.

Re: lower cost waterproof wifi camera

I have same question. My Horizon CP300 has an video input that takes both PAL and whatever the name is of the american standard is. My deck sweeper genoa (my light air racing weapon of choice) blocks the view to leeward. Did anyone connect an (inexpensive) video camera to it? Any recommendations, please?

What are you doing in a crowded waterway with a sail up in the first place.

Lol, Badsanta. Being in a crowded waterway with the sails up is a great definition of a sailboat race start.

Re: Lower Cost Waterproof Wifi Camera

I would have thought that your waterways across America would be as crowded as ours in Australia on a weekend- I bought a sail boat so I could sail!
You don't have to be in a race to be on a crowded waterway- but yes, racing is a real worry- I need to have some one crouching at my pulpit with a 2 way to communicate back to the helm advice on approaching vessels which is why I want a camera through my MFD to be able to click on the camera regularly to have a look - then click off
