Registration decal on PVC dinghy

So I just got my dinghy registered. When I went to install the decal and numbers they wouldn't stick. How do you put your numbers and registration decal on PVC dinghies?

We in our area use lexan. Apply reg numbers and reg sticker, two holes, and tie to dinghy. I understand that it's not technically legal, but the cops have never bothered anyone I know.

And use lexan. Ordinary plexiglass will snap in half when somebody steps on it or it hits something.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking of using a piece of lexan I had in the garage but wanted to make sure there wasn't some simple step I was missing like wiping the area with alcohol or using a glue or something.

I had a set of plastic registration boards. They were stolen to get my registration sticker. If I had them to do over I would put the sticker on the stern and leave it off of the registration boards.

I've had good luck putting clear Gorilla tape over the sticker extending about a half inch past the edges.

That is where mine is, the numbers are spray painted on, but of course the sticker you have to have the original.
I've never been asked to show it, have only been sort of stopped to show my vests, I say sort of as I wasn't stopped, he pointed to his vest, I picked mine up, he held up two fingers, so I picked the other up, and off he went. Kind of a neat check I thought, no time wasted, yet accomplished what he wanted.

Mine too. In 5 years, or so, never been a problem.

I put our numbers on with a stencil and a black sharpie pen. The sticker is on inside of transom where it is easily seen.

X3 on the sharpie pen, although against dark gray or black inflatable might not be your acceptable choice. Then painting may suffice. The broken plastic or lexan tagboards is sharp enough to cause havoc. The wooden type floats if separated from the dink. That's good if you can fetch it b4 it disappeared.
I've had plastic break, and little lines chaffe, and tie straps sever. If you use lexan, I recommend radius the corners and sanded edges. Any holes in lexan should be chamfered to lessen the chaffing.
I think my dingy is more workboat than taxi, that in turn affects the demise of tag boards if not slung inboard at the appropriate times.
Our next set of numbers gets painted, with shipyard ballpoint marker, On the tubes bow.
Maybe put sticker in a baggie and ask where to put it when I get stopped.?
