BOLO for Stolen Beneteau Panama City, FL.

Please be on the lookout for a 373 Beneteau. Green Bimini and trim. Surveillance camera showed the boat leaving the Treasure Island Marina last Thursday night around 8:00p.m. (20:00). The '37 Beneteau Sailing Yacht belongs to Captain Glenn Cowham. Capt. Glenn is the owner/Operator of Sunshine Sailing, LLC.
He used this yacht "Day and Night" exclusively for his work. If anyone knows of her whereabouts or if you run across her please contact the Bay County Sheriff's Office at:850-747-4700 or your nearest Law Enforcement Agency. Capt. Glenn is a friend of mine and a great guy. Ladies and Gentlemen, any help you could give would be greatly appreciated! - Sam

Geez, always thought a sailboat was like a manual shift car, wouldn't be stolen because thieves don't know how to use them?

I'm sure it's happened before but this is the first that I've ever heard of a sailboat being stolen. They got a good one though.

I'm going to take a wild guess it's not just a straight simple theft by some random criminal.
I have never heard of a sailboat theft either, be tough to sell?

Let's go down the rabbit hole. What could it be? Someone who worked for him? If so that person would need to get it out of the country and fast. Insurance fraud?? Crazy ex wife?? Someone simply got on the wrong boat?

Capt. Glenn has not tried to sell his boat. It makes him money and it's his "Baby". No money issues. He did move from a more secluded Marina to one that has open access nearby a busy street.

All those are good but no crazy exwife. He has no one that works for him. Insurance fraud is out of the question. The boat was paid for and he has no money issues. This is Panama City, FL though. A lot of fine people here but when you run across a Crazy, they are fully Certified CRAZY!

Re: BOLO for Stolen Beneteau Panama City, FL.

There was a case, several years ago, of some white-collar criminal who stole a sailboat in Portland and tried to escape to the Pacific. Setting aside the issue of whether he could have out-run the cops at 6 knots, he couldn't figure out how to get the railroad bridge to open.

Some drunks stole a boat on the W coast a couple of years back.. ran aground a few miles down the coast.
But boat thefts not that uncommon really.

Re: BOLO for Stolen Beneteau Panama City, FL.

Maybe a decade ago, two guys stole a brand new Bennie 57 from Charleston harbor. I want to say it might even have been hull number one or right close to it. This time of year. Belonged to a fellow in Atlanta if memory serves me, and the boat was being commissioned or had just been. Huge air and sea search. Might have had a day or two head start before the boat was noted as missing. No trace--nada. Turned up several months later in one of the lower Caribbean islands. Interior trashed. Lot of damage. The authorities arrested the two and brought them back to Charleston for trial. They had motored out of the harbor then sailed east to clear the Gulf Stream and then to the Caribbean. Came out in the trial one knew how to sail. He got a couple of years and the other guy? Well, he told the judge he couldn't go to jail because he just couldn't and started crying. Got probation. Caused a bit of an uproar, but that's all he got. Cried. Probation. These guys had no money for restitution, so the owner and his insurance company got stuck.

Made national news, but the outcome did not change.
