First step is to get a hf receiver (SSB) radio, I’m not aware of any gribs broadcast on the vhf.

If you can get vhf reception surely you would be most likely getting mobile phone reception, so easy to use data for grib.

Re: How I can get grib files trough VHF

VHF radio cannot transfer files so grib files cannot be sent over VHF. On HF it can be done with the help of a special modem (Pactor).
If you have cellular connection you may get such files through the internet. Can be done also with satphone connected to a PC.

I 've a HAM Radio with SSB. To learn on land I use on the laptop via Internet the Grib-viewer ZyGrib. It gets the weather data from NOAA-GFS server. But how is the situation without internet.

To get GRIB files on your ham rig you'll need either a Pactor modem or special software to access Airmail/Winlink. There is a non-ham version of Airmail called Sailmail. Sailmail operates on marine SSB frequencies outside the ham bands and requires a yearly subscription fee. I use a Pactor on the ham bands and it works well subject to the vagaries of HF radio propagation.

Yes it can be accomplished using Winlink Express or Airmail packet mode on the dedicated RMS VHF freqs.

What an interesting conjecture this is...

The only difference between VHF and HF is the frequency, it's not a different technology where one can do this but the other one can't. Pactor modems _can_ be used on VHF, but you are not allowed to actually use them on the marine frequencies. On the amateur radio bands they can be used, e.g. on 2m and 70cm, but that doesn't answer the OPs question.

So in short, I don't know anyone who is _broadcasting_ grib files on VHF, you'd have to go to HF and use the existing email services there as mentioned above by AA3JY.

Yes, but the OP didn't specify marine VHF, just VHF.

True, Heinz, but considering the fairly naive question and the way it was posed, does this sound like a ham to you? I reckon he meant marine VHF!

Jim

He sure did, agreed. Nevertheless it might be an interesting idea similar to using channels 87B and 88B for AIS data at 9600 baud. Why not broadcasting local grib data for the coastal region through the existing repeaters? Maybe the market is too small for such devices as many regions have been covered by Navtex for decades, just not Oz.

P.S.: It seems you are migrating north again?

And given that VHF range is only about 20 miles the practical application of sending data over VHF is quite limited (doable technically, but with limited practical benefit)
