Reusing Cut- out for VHF

Hi there. Anyone have experience reusing the cut-out for their VHF. It seems they are all different sizes and have gotten smaller over the years.

I currently have a Standard Horizon Matrix GX1280s mounted through a cutout in my Nav Station that's 67mm H x 168mm W. The new Standard Horizon GX2200 looks like the closest fit. The specs for the cut-out are 65mm H and 161mm W. The unit dimensions are 80mm x 180mm.

Haven't bought the new unit yet, but just looking at the specs, do you think this will work or will I have to work with an adaptor plate of some sort.

Any help welcomed.

Re: Reusing Cut- out for VHF

If the new radio is close or smaller than the old then building a new faceplate out of smoked plexiglass is quite easy and looks great. A router with a sharp round over bit makes a nice finished edge on the plexiglas.
