Old Adhesive removel from painted deck

I have just spent the day successfully removing the old non slip rubber deck covering with an oscillating cutting tool.
Now I have left is old contact glue that needs removing without stripping the paint? the plan is to replace the old non skid with new cover. The hull and deck is painted Aluminum. I live in Sydney Australia, many US products are not available here.

Attached is a photo of part of my striped deck. has anyone had experience in glue remove solvents. I would like to avoid sanding the deck. I looked at Diggers Glue Rid, I suspect it removes paint as well.

Many thanks,

Kryg SV. Skoiern IV

If you accept, from the first, that you will have to re-paint, you'll be better off all 'round !
Sorry....just the way it is.

Re: Old Adhesive removel from painted deck

Just went through that in a small area, maybe 1/2 meter square. Tried several products but ended up sanding it down. Good luck. Let us know if you find something that works.

Will a heat gun soften it?

it may, that is tomorrows task. Sanding does not work as it is soft rubber. I will let you know if I find a solution. Thanks

Re: Old Adhesive removel from painted deck

First find a compatible solvent that will soften the residue and not disrupt the paint. Awlgrip/craft or mono paints are different so you must identify. Mild heat softens nearly all adhesives but remember its a process of discovery. Plastic putty knives are generally more desirable than steel, they are softer than the substrate if your attempting to not re-coat. There will likely be a stain in the paint but this can sometimes be buffed out. Bon Vente

How about a vanilla wheel from Super Cheap Auto. They remove plastic stripes without damaging the paint underneath so maybe it will work?

Good advise, Logbrog, over time, I find adverting hype falls short on delivery. I took your advice and tried acetone turpentine mentholated spirits and gasoline. All failed, however I used Altex Paint thinner # 22 and # 25 and l placed a soaked face towel over the area for 10 mins, I was able to scrape the old glue off like jelly. see attached photos of after. plus product many thanks all. Try wd-40.
I’ve used lemon oil on adhesives before and it works.
Xylol or lacquer thinner or acetone ?
MEK will likely work but without knowing your paint product, it may dull the paint. Spot test.
