Sailing to Freeport, Bahamas

Hey guys!

I take an annual trip from Ft. Lauderdale to Freeport or Bimini, Bahamas on a Lagoon 440. This year I am taking a big crowd of people along with me and was looking for some ideas you guys had to do there with a big crowd.

Been there plenty of times, but want to make the whole crew happy. (AKA not sailing and at the bar at all times) Looking for unique places to take day sails to.

Thanks!

Smooth sailing,

Matt

Re: Sailing to Freeport, Bahamas

Tried to plan these short Bahamas trips a number of times and there's just not many options for places to go close to Freeport; Bimini only a little more.

From Freeport east the whole coast is straight on with no harbors, settlements or sights of any significance with the exception of one small beach island for about 50 miles. West about 20 miles you have West End which is a marina, a hotel and a restaurant.

Past West End you have a couple of small cays that would be OK for a day anchorage but nothing much there.

Bimini you have North and South Bimini and Cat Cay. A few cays and the concrete ship in between.

That's about it. So unless your idea of a day sail is to a secluded beach and maybe a little diving these are the options.

If you have already done the Bimini, Freeport thing try going to the Berry Islands for a change. No casinos or fast food places but very cool old Bahama location.

Maybe everyone gets naked on a deserted beach? Probably something they (most of em) haven't done before. Sure beats a casino!

Afraid that won't count as entertainment if the crowd ages 60+...
