Reef early they say.

My hope is he died of natural causes while living his dream.

Further reports coming out today say that the ships log notes he had sailed from PNG to Port Elizabeth and was now on his way to Durban. All alone and no fowl play is suspected. Yes living his dream til the end. Amazing. Interesting how the boat kept going for days on its own with out and mishaps hey. This time of the year is strong trade winds in the afternoons from the north east so the boat was beating all on its own

I see a wind vane on the stern so it could just keep in sailing unattended. If he just died of natural causes while on AP/windvane then it would just continue on its own...if he died quickly of natural causes, or a fall etc, then not a bad way for a sailor to go...sure beats falling overboard and dying slowly in the ocean.

Average life expectancey in France is 82 so he did punch out quite early unfortunatley.

It's not the length but girth, and how you use it.

RIP, may I go like that. . .

Not sad at all. Seems like a good way to check out, doing what he liked to do.

I would prefer this end to “he died in bed” (in most cases).

My view is that would be better to die while enjoying life, living the challenges, and enjoying one’s passions, instead of while asleep in bed.

Here are a few photos of his boat.

Boat name is said to mean “Search Where.”

Bon Voyage Sailor! (If there is an afterlife.)

Two points....

When did 69 become 'elderly'??

Also... they are reporting her as PNG registered yet the home port on the transom is L.S

That looks French to me.... you quite often see home ports shortened like that on french boats....

So not sure where they are getting the PNG from....

Agree ... maybe elderly starts when you stop sailing, but certainly not when you are crossing oceans solo.

Yep, I doubt it's PNG registered. One photo I've seen appears to show a french flag on the starboard stern. And the L.S is probably "Les Sables d'Olonne"

One press report I've seen said that according to his log book, he sailed from PNG. That may be where the confusion arose.
