Abacos Novice

I plan to motor from Ft Pierce late-July 2016 to Grand Cay at about 15kts. I've seen Matanilla Buoy many times from ships, so I plan to make that and watch the shoals on the way to Grand by plotter.

Of course, I'll keep full fuel and bolt on a threatening hurricane. Any other advice? I'm a little concerned about the heat, even though we have ample AC.

I hear clearing in Grand is doable. Is it at Rosies?

Re: Abacos Novice

You clear in at Walkers Cay, then it's only 5 or 6 miles to Grand Cay.

Re: Abacos Novice

It will be HOT, but water moderates it, for example I believe the all time record high ever reached in Miami is 99F, Where Arizona being way North of there easily gets well above 100F, difference of course is the water.
Enjoy early mornings and late afternoons and the night, stay in the AC in the middle of the day, Siesta.
Many people do it without AC, tough people

Re: Abacos Novice

Thanks all. Everything I read says that Walkers is closed. Did they reopen recently?

Re: Abacos Novice

I've cleared into the Abacos 3 times in the last 4 years. Green Turtle Cay, Marsh Harbour and Spanish Cay.

FWIW Spanish was the easiest and most pleasant 👍

Re: Abacos Novice

I asked someone who returned 2 weeks ago and he said clearance was moved from Walker's to Grand.
