Can you narrow down the area a little?

I have a friend who wants to do a Med circuit, over several years, with a 40 foot Cat, and is looking for winter options that will not charge for 2 berths.

Check out Menorca. Winter rates are much lower than alot of the Med. Club Maritimo may have space, as for Stephen...a Utah fellow that works at the Club. If they have no space, often the marina Mahon will have end ties. Either way Stephen will be able to assist you if interested in Menorca.

If southern Spain , Costa Calida , can suit you I can warmly recomend Yacht Port Cartagena in , of course , Cartagena .
You will only pay for the lengt of your Cat . Moreover , friendly marineros , well kept marine will all facilities and very close (walking distance) to city center .
Been there may times so don't hesitate for more info .

Re: Med marinas that are Cat friendly

A lot of marinas seem to want to charge an extra 50% for cats. That seems a bit underhand if you have a cat that can fit into a standard sized berth like most of the old narrow British cats can.

Prices are always changing so it probably good to have an up to date thread rather than trawl through old ones.

1 -1/2 is normal and reasonable. If it's a fingered dock and you get charged 1-1/2 then you got a bargin as you took up 2 spaces. There are some areas in the winter that are really dead and you'll get a very good rate but the popular hangouts where there are lots of other cruisers and usually better weather you'll pay the cat premium.

Re: Med marinas that are Cat friendly

Beware Croatia now as I believe some of the concessions are now charging double for cats on buoys. Neither fair nor reasonable but you have to admire the entrepreneurial spirit there!

150% is now the rule in western med with a few exceptions as listed. Eastern med is between 120% and 150% , or by length by beam in Turkey again with a few exceptions Ive found.

I get cranky when I get asked to pay 150% when im berthed alongside though.

Re: Med marinas that are Cat friendly

I recently did some shopping for a permanent berth in the western Med. She is currently in Sardinia, but thats expensive outside the winter season and not that easy / cheap to reach during winter (but way better than most of greece).

Plus we favour Tapas & Allioli over Pizza & Pasta. So I looked at all ports within 100nm of mallorca.

Price differences are shocking, I have been quoted all over the place from 3800 Euro per annum to 4 times as much.

Denia is currently taking the lead @ 16500 Euro per annum. My first boat came with a month of free mooring in Denia so I know that marina quite well: their bollards are are just ordinary steel without any gold and their service is just average. No clue what they are thinking.

Even Marinas in the same city can be very different, like Valencia where the Club Nautico RCNV charges 180% of what Marina "Juan Carlos I" charges.

I have not yet finished my tire kicking but the bottom line is: Do your wallet a favour and shop around!
