Hi there
I am considering some additional (budget) sail area to get my Athena 38 sailing rather than motoring in light
weather ( say up to 12 kts true) We have the standard main and
jib and a parasailor for downwind, so ideally we need something that works from close hauled round to about 160 degs. From what I can glean from the web that needs at least two
sails, a screacher (code zero) and a
gennaker. Probably in the first instance I will only have one of these. It would appear that in terms of area, a screacher should be about 50sq m and a
gennaker about 80 sq m. To get both of these
sails to this size would seem to require a
bowsprit and a
halyard which exits the
mast above the
current spinnaker outlet. Does this require runners ? A screacher also requires some luff tension which also seems problematic.
Has anyone else done it and with what success ?
