6 week sail in Bahamas for first timer.

Hello forum. Looking for advice and suggestions. Not new to sailing or cruising. But I have never been to Bahamas before. I will be leaving south fla the last week of feb and have till the end of first week of April roughly 6 weeks. I want to fish snorkel and eat. I’m enjoy quiet peaceful anchorages. And am worried about it being too crowded. Any suggestions as an itinerary. Boat is a 36 ft junk rigged schooner 4.5 draft. Thanks. Wade

It will be a great trip. I like the Exumas and once you get to Georgetown there are options further south all the way to the Turks and Caicos that hardly anyone goes to.

I'd recommend the Berries and/or the Exumas. Six weeks will fly by on a trip like that.

Do visit Great Harbor, and stay the !@#$% away from Nassau and Bimini.

Don’t forget it can take you more than a week to get to your destination!

Pretty sure the wind will have settle in February, but for the last months it’s been cold front after cold front giving not more than 12-18hours of good wind window

As I write this, I am stuck at the bottom of the berries until Christmas in wind of 25-35knots

Its a good time to go - we will be heading that way with 3 or 4 boats from Pensacola, FL around the same time. PM me if you would like to stay in touch. We have done the trip several times now. Given the hurricane damage, the Abacos is not a place to go this year - but we are planning the Berries, Spanish Wells, Eluethera, and south. We have done the Exumas a couple of times - I think it may be busy this year, so we are planning to spend maybe a little time there only. There's more info on my blog - see link below; and I have some videos of our past trips which are on you tube.

Happy Cruising!

Neil
