GIBRALTAR Post BREXIT

I am hearing that a lot of Commercial shipping companies and super yacht owners are already considering changing their Gibraltar Flag before the negotiations begin.

I wonder what these high end guys suspect?

Re: GIBRALTAR Post BREXIT

Gibraltar is in discussions with Spain to have Spanish jurisdiction and remain in the EU.

Got anything to back that up?

Local ( La Linea) spanish unions whose members work in Gib have been in discussions with the Gib government about future employment prospects in the BOT.

Re: GIBRALTAR Post BREXIT

Why would they not discuss all options? Gib is very small and affected mightily by the EU exit.
Doesnt mean they will do it, it means they are looking at the advantages or otherwise.. Spain is a good option.

But you said 'Gibraltar is in discussions with Spain '.. that implies discusions with the spanish central government over sovereignty .
Are they?

Gib friends have told me that discussions are part of the ongoing relationship with Spain. Spain is pushing hard and losing EU status will hurt Gibraltar. Like Scotland, Gib has to consider its future.

Re: GIBRALTAR Post BREXIT

I understand the vote in Gib was about 96% to stay in EU, but I doubt if they will choose to come under Spanish control.
Making things commercially difficult for Gib flagged vessels to trade inside EU would be a logical way for Spain to encourage change.

Seems a few are realizing early that this will become a political pressure point and are looking at options
