Re: Hurricane Harvey Slamming Texas

In season, it's prudent to always have a hurricane plan of action, based upon where you are and where you're going; and that plan might vary greatly depending upon the category of hurricane that comes ambling along.

The tornado damage is usually pretty easy to spot afterward when you'd see all these buildings damaged by the surge then one in the same area that looked like a bomb went off inside.

You can feel the pressure changes in your ears when these things go over also which tend to make you hit the deck rather fast

We had 14'- 18' surge with Ivan in Pensacola in 2004 and New Orleans/Mississippi Gulf Coast had 26' surge with Katrina in 2005.

When Katrina was 180 miles below Pensacola in route to New Orleans we had Cat 1 hurricane water levels in Pensacola

Of course we all wish this for you but looking at radar and WindyTV I'm afraid it won't be so.

I'm confident the Houston area will just be wet.....Corpus and vicinity on the other hand will need some luck.

Re: Hurricane Harvey Slamming Texas

Houston could be in the rebound path. If this thing crawls up the coast and is pushed back out to sea it may come ashore a second time over Houston or Freeport. That is a big concern because Houston will already be flooded just about the time people need to bug out. Will be interesting to see what Harvey does because right now no one knows what it will do exactly.

Re: Hurricane Harvey Slamming Texas

We are coming back from Cozumel on RCL Liberty of the Seas. We are hearing that
Port of Galveston is open for us to dock. The question becomes HOW MUCH flooding we will be dropped into? Carnival Breeze will be delayed for Sunday departure has been texted to people who we know. I can't do anything about my boat in Galveston Yacht basin until return. Harvey had died out when we left last week. Can only hope my lines are well tied.

We had one that looked almost exactly like that after one of our hurricanes here. I used to have a picture of it somewhere.

Be safe guys. The wind looks to have really picked up over the last hour. Cat III is no play time.

Looks just exactly like the Oak Harbor Marina where we were for "KATRINA". Floating docks just did not work out well. They collapsed under the weight of the boats and folded on top of each other like deck of cards. Most boats were lost on the floating docks. We were on a traditional dock. We survived along with two other boats, all others were either on the bottom, on top of the dock, or implanted into the condo complex.

No, Tetepare, I think your presumption is incorrect. I think it is a very small percentage of owners who might think that.

However, here are some of the reasons I thought of. People are too far away, for work, family help, or vacations. Some would be so delayed they would have trouble getting to the marina to take care of their boat, and getting away to safety. Some will have had some kind of life event happen to them where they're just not thinking of preparing their boat. It wasn't hurricane season when they left the boat there, and they didn't think they should have doubled up their lines.

It is the way of life.

And now, the issues are different. It is about survival of people not toys.

Re: Hurricane Harvey Slamming Texas

The problem with this storm is it may stall out and hang in the coastal areas for a couple of days. If that happens it could dump 3' of rain. There is no way that amount of rainfall won't cause unprecedented flooding. The actual winds will quickly diminish to storm warnings when it comes ashore but the rains will keep coming if it hangs around.
