NJ Sales Tax

Buying my first boat and I have a question that I hope someone can answer.
I live in NJ but have found a new boat I like i Delaware.
I know there is a sales tax break of 50% off the normal 7% if the boat was purchased in NJ. Will I have to pay 7% when I register it because of buying it in Delaware who has no sales tax.

i can't answer your first question, but i think i remember some discussion on the forum about it. i am intrigued by the above quote though. i have never heard of this 50% tax reduction before. i'm especially interested since i'm about to plunk down for a bigger boat in NJ.

It applies to use tax as well as sales tax so you would be subject to the 50% exemption. The law reads "sales and uses".

that's up to a maximum of 20k in taxes.....I think it's all a big christie tax grab if you ask me....I notice a greater number of boats for sale in NJ than in previous years.....is why my ex and I are looking in maryland and will homeport in maryland....even if she's a NJ resident
