Re: Cruisersnet in Abacos Range (Distance) (or time?)

Sea of Abaco VHF Cruisers net is 815 each am.

Allans Pensecola to far away, avg marine vhf range is 15nm at best.
This fall couldnnt hear it well in GTC, generally need to be south of the Whale, North 9f Little Harbour.

Right about that. We couldn't get it at Green Turtle either.

Is there a ham net in that area? Is there a ham net for all of the Bahamas?

green turtle has a tiny net; not certain of the time, but later than Barometer Bob's (of which you can hear on the net with a slight delay; barometerbob.org if memory serves...)

Re: Cruisersnet in Abacos Range (Distance) (or time?)

From today:

Passage conditions: (Updated by 9 AM)
Sunday, March 5, 2017

Sea of Abaco conditions: Troy @ Dive Guana reports that, due to the northerly component to the wind, stay in the lee; it’s sloppy, bouncy and rough in the middle and wherever you’re exposed to the cuts.
Whale Cay: Nothing heard.
North Man-O-War: Buddy @ Calypso Pointe reports 5’ rollers, 2-3’ wind chop, lots of whitecaps -- very rough.
South Man-O-War: Jay of SunDog reports a "TRAUMA 1": E wind at 22 knots, breaking waves in the cut, and 9-10’ swells in the ocean.
Tilloo Cut: Betsy at Rock Point reports white water all across the cut, elephants on the horizon -- "rough!"
North Bar: Nothing heard.
Little Harbour: Brian at Done Rovin’ reports "rough, rough, rough" -- white water across the cut, almost a rage.

Please remember that we are just trying to help out with these reports. You are the captain of your vessel so the decision will be yours alone.
Updates thanks to Susan M and Jill P.
