American Deckhands And Cook needed For Tallship Work In Cuba.

American schooner currently in Portland maine is looking for experienced deckhands to deliver the boat from Portland, maine to key west, we'd be departing portland on or around the 18th of november. from there the vessel will head to Cuba and will spend january-april in cuba conducting 2 week marine biology programs on coral reefs in cuban waters. with both american and cuban scientists aboard. from there the vessel will depart cuba and return to maine arriving back in Portland mid-late may. please contact me for more information. the vessel is a 130ft gaff rigged wooden schooner so crew with gaff rigged experience is strongly preferred. these are paid positions open to americans only as the vessel is US flagged and jones act compliant. please contact me for more information.

thanks very much

There is a facebook page called Crew Helping Crew, its for professionals only. There are several other facebook groups with similar mission. There are many(qualified) crew listed there.

Very much interested. I will send you my sailing cv. No shore commitments. GREAT cook. Everyone says that. But seriously, I'd win on Chopped.

Very interested. Registered nurse and fluent spanish speaking. I owned "Cloud Nine," a Bowman 57 previously owned by Roger Swanson. Sailed her from Guaymas to San Diego and later to Monterey Bay as a support vessel for "The Great Pacific Race."

Again, Very Interested!

Best,

Robert

Good day,

I am interested in the cook's position aboard your tall shipt.
I worked the 2015 season out of Rockland aboard the Isaac H. Evans and am now looking to go south for the winter.
Resume and references upon request.

Thank you,
Sheri Sullivan

Hi there,

Do you or the ship have a website or someplace I can find more information about the voyage and the partnership with the biologists? I'm a writer and blogger with an interest in sailing and tall ships. Given the recent interest in Cuba, I think this might be an interesting story to write about.

You can send me a PM or email me at daughterofmagellan [at] gmail.com. Anyway, thanks for any info you could provide!

When you say "americans only" does that include canadians?

I know of a crew of four. They are young gaff rigged schooner experienced crew that are just ending the season crewing on a 110' schooner from New England. They are presently transiting to her home port now. E-mail me at kevin@bigbend.net and I will give your their contact info. They are a well oiled teem that I spent the last two mths sailing with.

Is a gaff rigged schooner a "tall ship" !?

I thought only squared sails should qualify to that :-)

IMHO, if it has wooden masts of more than one section...ie topmasts, and also ratlines to climb aloft, then I would call it a tall ship.

Squares are nice too. Very nice.
