Greetings from Malaysia

Hi,

We are here in the steamy tropics, having had some sailing experience on friend's boats in the region we are on the lookout for something to call our own.

Simply to enjoy the cruising area Malaysia/Thailand for now ..and perhaps one day a little further afield.

Tending towards a smaller older Cat under 40' ,however not a lot of choice it seems in this part of the world other than perhaps the newer French ones.

Anyhow great to research and soak up fantastic information and experience on this forum.

Cheers!

Re: Greetings from Malaysia

Howdy and Welcome Aboard CF!

There is a vast amount of information here and many helpful members who have extensive experience.

My Favorite CF Forum Tip: Use the Google Custom Search Function

I know that most people who are new to this forum might try the ordinary search function of the forum when they have a question in mind. Unfortunately that always yielded few results for me when I tried that when I first joined this forum. In contrast, a standard Google search outside of the forum can produce a bewildering list of links too. It was only later that I learned to quickly and easily find great links to archived or previous threads on a topic.

I only use the Google Custom Search field on this forum when searching this forum, and I find all the answers I need here too using that.

I find it superior to an ordinary search using the standard "search" field and usually get the answers I want very quickly. So, it is my "number one tip" to newer forum members. .

Note! The Google Custom Search field is found under the "Search" menu seen at the top of your browser window when you are in the CF forum on any page. However, it is NOT shown as an option if you are viewing the Forum site using the CF Mobile app. Use a browser like Safari instead.

Re: Greetings from Malaysia

The Phuket/Langkawi area is a great place to find a good deal on a used cruising boat. Many people end their cruise there as they do not want to risk the Red Sea and are intimidated by Southern Africa route. In addition to the brokers, check out the yacht club at Ao Chalong and Rebak. It never hurts to cruise the boatyards as well. Lots of custom cats in addition to production available if you look around.

Re: Greetings from Malaysia

Hi Mike

Many thanks for your information.

There are indeed a lot of monohulls available ,at quite good prices, although older multi's seem a lot harder to find.

My budget is ca. $ 100k. +/-

I check the broker's websites regularly ,and also do visit the marina's.

I am not adverse to a monohull although due to the hot humid weather and a lot of shallow water around the islands a multi would be our preference (especially the Admiral!)
