Rigging wire supplier in Australia

Hi all,

Looking for recommendations for a rigging wire supplier or brand in Australia. Just after the standard 1 x 19 in 10 mm and 8 mm. (Stainless of course)

Not sure which brands to trust and which to avoid.

Matt

Maybe talk to Gary Saxby of UK sails Brisbane, hes a rigger and a decent fair guy. He maybe able to give you good advise. I purchased my wire and turnbuckles etc through him, sorry I can't remember the brand at the moment.

I believe the wire and Hamma toggles came from here

https://www.arcuswire.com/

When I researched the wire at the time it seemed to be reputable.

That’s the second time they’ve been recommended to me, thank you.

Arcus largely - perhaps entirely - sells wire rope made in Korea by a company that uses brand names 'Kos' and 'hamma'.

The products seem to be as good as any on the market in Aus.

The company structure behind the brands is, as with many things about Korea, slightly obscure.

The root seems to be a chaebol (conglomerate) called the Kiswel Group 키스웰그룹.

Burrowing down into the structure of that chaebol is a headache. A surprising number of companies, many with not-to-dissimilar names, in the steel and chemical sectors, and typical of Korean chaebol, a holiday resort and a basketball team.

Several companies in the steel sector: Kos (derived from Goryeo steel or Koryeo steel, where Goryeo is the name of a political state that ruled over people on the Korean peninsula from 918 to 1392 - and is the ultimate historical source for most of the European names for that peninsula e.g. Korea/Correo and variations), Samhwa Steel, Kiswire, Koswire, and others.

Some of those component steel companies seem to be the result of merger. The Kos part points to trading company and a factory near Busan as its origin. Other of the steel companies in the Kiswel group point to different places of origin, including in Pohang.

So Kos (and its parent chaebol) is not the biggest steel company in Korea (Posco probably is and Posco has had a long relationship with Aus, buying iron ore and metallurgical coal from Aus). It's wire is generally regarded as safe (gras).

Thanks Alan. Quite a bit of research there. Are you an importer of some sort by any chance?[emoji6]
