Mail from Texas

Hi All-

Wel I just turned in my letter of resignation effective the end of the spring semester. A pretty big leap of faith since the house hasn't sold hence a future home with two hulls and sails haven't been gotten but steps have got to be taken.

We are spending the next 8+ months wrapping up life on land; family, children, possessions, etc. Part of that is figuring out what to do with our mail once we leave. I know there are mail forwarding services and the ones I hear the most about are in Florida, but for a lot of reasons (mostly that deals with our handicapped sons long term situation) we need to remain residents of Texas. So, I am looking for suggestions of mail forwarding services that can cater to the needs of the live aboard cruiser but still want's some folks to at least think they live on land or at least in a PO Box.

Any recommendations?

I'd try something like the UPS stores. The ones I've seen have mailboxes. They could box up your mail and UPS it to you when you call.

Did a google search on "mail forwarding services TX" and this was the first result.

I use my brother's street address for a lot of stuff. He opens anything that looks important.

I also have a mail forward service provided by my company at present but it is a PO address and not everyone accepts that.

In Texas your domicile is where you believe it to be. We rented a room from a friend in Austin for $1.00/ year. We Used PostNet out of Islamorada, Fla to forward our mail. There is also St Brendan's Ilse who caters to cruisers. St. Brendan's Isle - Cruisers Home Port™ Mail Service

I see the best answer in the same manner as sunchaser, You can easily use a mail service like St Brendan's Isle, but still claim a Texas residence. There is no rule that suggests that your residence is the same location as a mail service.

We use our son's address in Houston as our residence. We have a closet in his home where unimportant mail and online purchases are stored. We visit Houston one month each year and collect all items received since our previous visit. As basically everything financial can be handled online these days, this works quite well and is legal.
