chromebook and tablet for echarts

I have been successfully using my Android Samsung for navigation for a few years now and thought that it would be a good idea to update my hardware by buying a Chromebook. They are light and have a good battery life of over 10 hours compared with a tablet where getting 5 hours would be good.
However I am finding that some chrome books do not have a touch screen which makes some apps, not function, and they do not appear to have a GPS function although I am told that some do triangulate from terrestrial antennas which would be OK for maps but not for charts.
Has anyone investigated the options of using Chromebooks for navigation using say Marine Navigator app by Ronald Koenig and Visitmyharbour raster or vector charts? What external source of positioning hardware will work on a Chromebook.

Re: chromebook and tablet for echarts

I have been using my android tablet but would like something with a keyboard. Chrome books are cheap which is good but I was thinking more of something ruggedized. But I really want a keyboard
.

Re: chromebook and tablet for echarts

We got a free Chromebook for some reason or other. OK for some Android apps, but no touch screen, no GPS on this one... so not particularly useful for nav apps except maybe for in the planning stages. Dunno if they have options; we weren't shopping for Chromebooks...

Might be some of the Logitech external Bluetooth keyboards and mice could work with a tablet, given an available USB port. Haven't tried that, but I routinely add a Bluetooth mouse to laptops...

Using here a Raspberry Pi with OpenPlotter. Has default a VNC server and a wireless Access Point.

You only have to install a VNC client on the Chromebook or on any other systeem and you have the RPI desktop with OpenCPN on your Chromebook.

Make wireless connection first and then switch on VNC on your Chromebook.

Also works on an Ipad.
