ADVICE? Repo -12.4k USD for a 47' Blue Water Ketch?
Hi all.
Saw a link on CList this morning about a repor 47' boat of unknown-to-me make/model at quite a possibly decent price (what are they hiding?)
So I followed the link to this -check it out:
1982 47ft Bluewater Sailboat For Sale
Of course I immediately thought,
" ...Oh another Scam"... followed by,
" ...Well what if you CAN buy things that have been repo'd? People get great deals on vehicles that way..."
Followed by
" ...Yeah, but there will be 500 people there if it goes to auction or something..."
Followed by
"...The pics are probably 20-30 years old," and then
".... So what the **** is wrong with it? (Is it underwater or soon will be? Rotted decks destroyed the interior after 20-30 years of neglect tied to some dock?)..."
etc., etc., etc
So BESIDES the 10,000 HORROR STORIES of what COULD be going on,
-->>Any input or can you help IDENTIFY the make/model-???
And (if this is legit), what one would want to begin to look out for, (besides the obvious that they WERE willing to divulge)?
...???

Re: ADVICE? Repo -12.4k USD for a 47' Blue Water Ketch?
My first thought is to figure out who the seller is and start doing background checks. I have a friend who bought a boat at repo. And it turned pretty well for him. But with all things do your homework before the physical inspection. And if anything doesn't look right just walk away.
Good luck and fair winds. If you do go forward I am sure this forum would be interested in your experience.

Re: ADVICE? Repo -12.4k USD for a 47' Blue Water Ketch?
Note!! I think that site is CLICK BAIT ONLY!
I suspect that website is a "click bait" site that posts fraudulent info in order to attract clicks for the ads there.
Why suspect that?
Because of the similar wording, the lack of photos or details for any of the listings, and the ridiculous low "grab your eye" prices. And, the photos appear to be all stock photos, or not of a particular boat. The site name is picked to attract boat shoppers, but there is no "real" content, just some stock photos and few listings.
------
The boat resembles a CT48.
CT-48 sailboat specifications and details on sailboatdata.com
--------
Not convinced of my suspicion?
Now go look at the following listing on that same site, and notice the same wording, the same use of limited stock photos, lack of details etc.
http://www.yachts-forsale.com/listin...aran-for-sale/
That shows an Antares 44i catamaran:
"2013 44ft Antares Catamaran For Sale. This Yacht appears to be in like new condition. The current Insurance option is $8390. It is stated to have slight interior damage."
Yeah, right! LOL!

Probably right.
Here's the original CList...
CList ad, Portland, OR
I'm waiting to hear back from either. If not, flagged and gone.

Not sure what all the surprise is about the price, that is often all those boats are worth. Fixed up is one thing but most of them leak like crazy have crappy hardware and are probably rotting away.

The boat is definitely a Vagabond 47' built by Bluewater Yachts in Taipei, Taiwan. Designer is William Garden. If it is salvageable at all, at $12.4k it would be a steal. In decent shape, these boats can get near $200k.

"This Sailing Yacht appears to be in like new condition. The current Insurance option is $12400. It is stated to have some interior damage."
Tell us what is wrong with the two statements in red being part of the same listing.
It wouldn't hurt to make an inquiry but proceed under the assumption it's a scam and give them little or no information about yourself until you are satisfied it is legitimate. Even then it's probably worth spending a few hundred to have someone independently confirm the ownership status. No matter what make survey and sea trial a requirement and have the deposit and final sale price held in an independent escrow account (not the website owner's escrow account) until all the paperwork is handled.

The ad states... "Like new, with interior damage"?!?
Run, Forrest, run.
Be careful... your parrot might just lose it's other leg.

It's click bait, I tried to contact them and they never responded. Luckily I block all ads so they didn't get their clicks haha.

Re: ADVICE? Repo -12.4k USD for a 47' Blue Water Ketch?
Oh I was more curious than anything- I am WAY to skeptical of ANY boat "bargains" -most of the time (99%?) a bargain of ANY kind means your lifeblood being sucked away in 10x the cost and time to make up for what the "bargain" was that got it "discounted" to begin with.
I wrote to ALL the links to whomever is behind it all the postings.
It's been over 24 hours, not a peep.
