Cape Capricorn, Queensland, Australia

I have sailed the Qld. coast a number of times and never entered the river at Yellow patch on the northern side of Cape Capricorn.
This does not appear to be an easy entry and last time I was there no markers.
Does anyone have the co ordinates for this entry?

Re: Cape Capricorn, Queensland, Australia

The entrance keeps shifting. It used to be marked unofficially by locals. However,I would think that everything has changed with the recent weather. I doubt the markers have survived the recent weather, and i am sure the entrance will have shifted with that weather.

Best go there and suss it out by dinghy. You can generally anchor right under the cape, depending on weather, while you are looking by dinghy.

You might get up to date information from Gladstone VMR, phone no in the tide book, google, white pages, etc. try to get hold of a chap called Jim Purcell, most knowledgable. However, I suspect the VMR will be a bit reticent, and will give you the same advice as in preceding para.

I am not sure what you draw, but you will almost certainly need tidal assistance from a fair tide. I draw 2m, and like a tide of 3.8m or higher to go in.

If you arrive at night, need to wait for the tide, whatever, nearby Hummocky generally provides good anchorage, except in due northerlies.
