Dinghy Davit or Deck stowage for Sailboat

Just looking for thoughts on what you all have experienced with davits or deck stowage of your dinghy on your sailboat.

For passages of any length, especially in unprotected waters, you have to plan on storing it on deck (or below). As having it in davits can get to be a hazard due to the possibility of waves filling it.

Agree with Uncivilized about off-shore but very convenient for day sailing.
