How to fit a washing machine in a sailboat?
Hi everyone, new to the site and very curious about this answer.
If the companion way is not at least 29 in, which I'm not sure if most are, how would you fit a washing machine inside the boat? Has anyone attempted this and they had to do something to get it in.
Would really appreciate any help I can get on this question.
Best regards to all.

Buy a smaller washer/dryer. The popular Splendide vented model is 22 5/8" deep.

Either the Hair mentioned it a dual bin washing machine from Amazon. The dual bin uses less water, is faster and more powerful than the Hair but it does require more work. If you have the space, a Splendide is fully automatic from beginning to end and a good choice.

Re: How to fit a washing machine in a sailboat?
The Splendide company is excellent. Our 17 year old unit recently broke down while I was in Italy, so I called the company in the US for help. Turns out, the machine has a self diagnostic internal device, so the company tech walked me through the process from 6500 miles away, determined the problem (motherboard failure), shipped the appropriate parts, then after a 20 minute simple repair on the boat of replacing the motherboard, the machine is now working 100%.
No repair man required. Wonderful customer service... done the way it should be done.
In hindsight, I'm guessing the US model machine maybe didn't like the 50hz European electrical when I plug in dockside, so I'll need to remember to unplug in the future and give it 60hz, but this is a guess as to why it failed.

Re: How to fit a washing machine in a sailboat?
I second Ken's recommendation of Spendide for customer service. I had one in an RV for years before we adopted cruising. I had a simple problem with a 'phone call' simple fix.
The only negative statement I have, and it may have been operator error, was the plastic soap dispenser drawer scraped the finish off the metal body of the machine and it became a bit of a rusty mess.

Re: How to fit a washing machine in a sailboat?
I was just given a vented Splendid for my birthday/4th of July /Thanksgiving /Christmas and Hanukkah. Our companionway is 24". It is the best crew member on the boat.

Manny,
We were lucky enough to have the washer dryer come pre-installed by the previous owners.
They shared how they got it into place: they disassembled the new unit and cut the chassis in half. They brought the pars onto the boat and installed and reassembled the chassis with reinforcements to make it stronger than original. Then they reassembled the guts into the machine... [Also a great way to get to know your new machine I suppose...]
We have a few photos they provided on our page about our washer/dryer.
Also, I concur with prior mentions of Splendide's splendid customer service. [Sorry, couldn't resist...] This is the 2nd vessel I've had with a Splendide, and I will not change in the future if/when the time comes. In 25 years of Splendide ownership [2 machines on separate vessels] I have had to replace a dryer blower fan that distorted when 'someone' forgot to open the external dryer vent to outdoors while the vented unit was running...
Best wishes finding what is best for your needs.
Cheers! Bill

Re: How to fit a washing machine in a sailboat?
If the companion way is not large enough you can either enlarge it or install a large hatch or soft hatch (removable section) in the deck.
