Spain - need propane tank with US fittings
I would like to purchase a fiberglass propane tank with US style fittings. I know the norm is to switch out European tanks, but I’m not interested in that approach. We have one 20 pound tank on board and I would like to have a second for immediate changeout when one is empty.
We will be between Barcelona and Gibraltar this season so perhaps I can order it and have it delivered. Anyone have a suggestion as to where I can order one of these?
Steve

Can you offer a suggestion as to how to purchase this in Spain? It’s a piece of cake in the US, but not so simple over here.
Thanks!

Why not just buy an EU fibreglass cannister and fit one of these..

Are you saying WM doesn't supply its customers while they're cruising overseas?

Well for a starters their website is blocked to Europeans due to them refusing to comply with the EUGDPR regulations, about protecting the data they hold on you. Browsing their wears is therefore a tad tricky. You would think they would be interested in selling to 740m people But don't worry, the Chinese nice people and will fill the vacancy.

Even if you ordered from the US, duties would kill you. English fittings are the same as American, I think. So maybe it could be purchased in Gibraltar?

Re: Spain - need propane tank with US fittings
one question and it might sound like a stupid one but if you have a UK or US fitting on your propane tank will you be able to get it filled in Europe?
Answer is probably not.
It's a bit like Camping Gaz and Coleman Gas canisters for hiking stoves. Coleman is common in the US and UK but not so common in EU where Camping Gaz is more prevalent.
A case of buyer beware and maybe a converter might be a better idea.

Re: Spain - need propane tank with US fittings
When Skylark first arrived in The Netherlands from the US, I met a crafty Dutchman who told me how to fill my own US tanks from a 17 kg European gas tank.
He took one of my connecting hoses that connected the regulator to the tank inside the gas storage box and fit a European fitting on one end.
I just fit the European connection to the European tank and the US fitting to the US tank and let the US tank be filled.
I don't fill my two 11 lb tanks on board my boat needless to say.
I can't even log on to the West Marine website from Europe. Defender was always my chandlery of choice anyway.

Almost everything can be purchased in Gibraltar or shipped there to your yacht market “Yacht in Transit” meaning there would be no import duty.

You will find an occasional shop to fill your US fitting tank, but they are probably not doing it legally. You can probably get it filled in Gibraltar. The method mentioned above works if you can find someone willing to fill it for you.

Try Defender.com. I've always had great service from them. I haven't ordered from them
while in Europe, but I have in Asia, the South Pacific, and South America. If the tank isn't listed, talk to their special order section.

They are not the same. The English ones are very slightly larger.

For those of us who live in the free world, this is what you get from West Marine.
