For what it's worth the majority of the issues I am aware of wit hunters date from the end of the Cherrubin era (1981 design date) up until Henderson took over as the designer in 1995.

There was a long slow slide in build quality as price drove down production quality, and Hunter made some poor choices like switching to cast parts instead of milled. The early years of grid design also suffered from a lot of issues including a few cases of liner delamination.

But anything designed after Henderson took over I wouldn't have any concern over.
