Antenna internal resistance

Going over things on our new old boat, as I was experiencing issues with the antenna cable and was doing measurements anyway, I also held the Ohm-meter to the VHF antenna. It showed something like 1,5 Ohms.

Does anybody know if this sounds right? The antenna looks well built, with a plastic housing protecting the wire or whatever is in there. Not the most primitive design I have ever seen. So, if the 1,5 Ohms sounds good, it is going back up to the top of the mast.

Re: Antenna internal resistance

You cant really measure the quality of an antenna with an ohm meter. Some antennas will show high resistance some will show an open. Really depends on the antenna design. You cant test a coax with a ohm meter. Short out the pins of the coax on one end and confirm you see a short at the other. The best way to test a coax and antenna is to use an SWR meter to make sure you power is going forward out the antenna and not reflected back to the radio. With a good spectrum analyser you can test an antenna but those are a bit big and pricey for a one time test.
