In search of Small weatherproof Pod for just VHF unit...

Hi we have a standard horizon matrix gx2150 VHF at the binnacle.
Looking high and low for a weatherproof box fabricated to fit it.

There are many options(polyplanar) for marine stereos but unfortunately don’t accommodate the 2.6” vertical clearance for back of radio to be inserted.

It’s currently mounted in a box made to mount to the underside of a hardtop or the like. The box is larger (width) than the vhf by far.

Looking for something like a pod made to accommodate the unit.

Appreciate any input from someone who has found this.

FYI We are not looking to get novel here.. i.e. putting it into a pelican case, cutting the cockpit to flush mount etc.

How about putting the radio down below and putting a ram mic in the cockpit.

It’s how standard intenddd the radio to be installed. Now you’ve got no need to have an intrusive box at the helm.

Again, just loooking for a smaller pod box. They exist, just can’t seem to locate online.
Thanks for anyone with that info.

They used to be very common, mostly for smaller fishing boats and the like, where there’s no down below.
I tried googling and I can come up with many stereo enclosures, but none for a vhf, then I got to thinking, aren’t most all if not all vhf‘s waterproof?

Build a cover out of starboard that will cover the opening. Then a opening for the radio then 4200 for weatherseal.

Could you give minimum measurements to fit your VHF? It's hard to know whether a possible is a probable without knowing the space you need.

If your radio is like most of their newer models, it is waterproof to 3 feet for 30 minutes, just mount it at the helm. On my previous boat I had one mounted there for years with never a problem. (and it is still working for the new owner)

Navpod, will have a suitable box. Not cheap but good.

"Submersible JIS-7 / IPX7 (3.3 feet for 30 minutes)"
Odds are it doesn't need a box, and sealing it into one might cause the radio to overheat unless you custom build something with provision for forced air ventilation.
I think SH would tell you to put the radio below and use the optional RAM mic in the cockpit, if you're concerned about water.

To revive an old thread
Only the front panel on vhf radios are waterproof
The GGR requires a full waterproof VHF enclosure
People make their own

Re: In search of Small weatherproof Pod for just VHF unit...

why would you mount a vhf at the binicle. get a vhf with a remote mic option and mount the vhf at the chart table. run mic cable to binicle
