Shipping by Truck from Bellingham to Cal or Texas

We are interested in shipping our 35 ftPeterson from the PNW to either side for access to Mexico Pacific side or the other side for Texas . Does anyone have any info or references of truckers that have done a good job?

Why not sail? It's down hill all the way and Peterson are great boats. Many cool spots to duck in to if weather craps out and fuel, provisions and sightseeing the whole way except for a few hundred miles on the Baja Pacific side. Toughest part of the trip is from Cape Flattery out 30-40km before hanging a left... just sayin'... Capt Phil

If you do decide to truck the boat make certain that the boat is insured heavily and the trucker is insured heavily and the contract is looked over with a fine tooth comb. There have been some horror stories here on the forum about damage to boats and truckers ducking out on their responsibilities.

It occurs to me that I have not heard of anyone using the train to move a boat.

I understand you would have to move it twice by truck, once to and once from the train, but it may be cheaper, and certainly you know it will get there.

Just a thought.

Moving by train doesn't mean it will get there this year. Company I worked for had 4 53' refer trailers loaded with beef lost for 4-13 months a few years ago. Had to throw away approximately 170,000 lbs. of beef and the 4 new trailers.

Not only will it have to be trucked twice, you will have to arrange crane time 4 timrs. Plus, by the time they decide to ship a truck would have had it there a long time sooner

I have had good experience getting containers moved by train across country, as well as shipping passenger cars and trucks. In both cases, costs were significantly less then trucking.

I never had a problem with wait times, but again, that is my experience.

I was just suggesting investigating it. It may be cheaper to lift, transport, crane, rail, crane, transport and splash than lift, truck, splash.

Or it may not be. It is just an exercise in logistics. A freight broker may be able to assist.

I just think if a long distance transport is the case, it is worth investigating.

I just trucked my Beneteau 393 from Everett, WA to Deale, MD using Associated Boat Transport out of Marysville, WA. They truck all over the U.S. but are a local PNW company. I believe they are the company that ships all the new Nortic tugs. They did a great job for us, and as a bonus was the cheapest of 5-6 quotes I got. Communication was good from the time the boat was loaded until it was safe at its own home. They have a small company vibe, and are always accessible by phone (if not email...). I would use them again if I ever had to.

I second that Associated Transport suggestion. Nothing but high marks for this company. They did an excellent job trucking my boat from SF to Olympia. On time and on price.
