question about condition of mast on hunter 22

hello, I'm starting the process of searching for a small boat to buy and looked today at a 1985 Hunter 22. I'd like thoughts on the attached pic of the base of the mast that appears to have a small piece broken off just under the screw. the owner said he never noticed it but i wonder if this would be a deal breaker? thanks, Lk240 Click image for larger version

Re: question about condition of mast on hunter 22

The pic confuses me.... In general the dirty frayed line and corrosion indicates a boat poorly cared for. Many trailerable boats dont show much corrosion, as they sit in a yard away from the water.... maybe this one sits in salt water? At any rate from what I see it's not a deal breaker and is repairable if it's an issue. Probably from the SS fastener, which I'm not sure does what...
BTW, many boats that size should be very cheap. There's one near me with no motor but a trailer for $500 asking.

Re: question about condition of mast on hunter 22

thanks for your reply. it's docked on a freshwater lake. if it was $500 I'd probably be more interested but asking price is $3,800 with trailer. the rudder is in bad shape as well and the bilge pump didn't seem to work so I think i'll pass on this one. thanks, lk240

Re: question about condition of mast on hunter 22

Well, 500 is rare with trailer. But $2k, maybe $1500 isnt. Offer less than asking for sure. Important to assess the sails condition on any of them as new sails can be more than the boat! Good luck, you'll find something in that size range for sure.
Where are you?
